The Scrap House

Duck! | December 23, 2009

Well, I’m really glad to say, it finally happened. The house, known as Walter for reasons I will never fathom, has been moved. 22 miles, down highway 12, to my front yard. I promised the school it would be gone about 9 months ago, but hey, what’s most of a year among friends? I’m not sure who took this photo, honestly, so I wish I could credit them. Hyatt sent it to me though. I’m out of town, but I’ll take some photos of its resting place and a status update. Initial reports sound like it made it fine, though. It’s good to know it’s done. Also, I’d of course like to thank the movers, Jarvis at Cape Point Exxon and Towing, purveyors of fine ethanol free gas and other such services. So thanks! And of course, Merry Christmas everyone!

  1. I’ve had this unease about something and I could not put my mind on it. Tonight, it came to me, “What ever happened to the Scrap House?”. Was it scalped going under a bridge, tipped over on a curve or just the major component of the Home Coming bond fire? Glad to see a shot if it rolling down the road, in considerably better weather than we’ve be having here in the NW.
Congrats on the move and I would like to see further progress photos. In another few months I’ll notice some uneasiness and have to decern the cause – then I’ll check the Scrap House Blog again.
    Happy New Year.

  2. I just came accross your blog this morning, and I wanted to say how great I think it is: I’ve been glued to my chair for the last hour as I’ve read! I think your hard work is amazing, the “house” looks spectacular, and good luck in finishing it off. You boys are really talented, and I wish you all the best for 2010.

    • How dare you put “house” in quotations! 😉

Thanks for the kind words; It’s always nice to hear from readers. I just posted for the first time in a while; life has taken over my time. Oh well. It’ll still get done, just a tad slower. Hope your 2010 is going well so far!

About author

This blog is dedicated to an experiment a group of three other fellow students and I are doing at our school in Buxton, NC. My Drafting III class and I set out to see if we could build a house for free. It's small, but functional. All the materials come out of dumpsters. And most of all, it's working.
